After you pass
The end of the beginning
You will have heard it a thousand times before, but passing the test, just like any examination, is just the beginning. At last you will be able to drive by yourself. But statistics show that new drivers are more likely to have an accident in the first two years after they pass their test than at any other time in their driving careers, basically due to lack of experience.
Pass Plus
There is only one way to gain experience, but it is much better to gain the right experience. At White's School of Motoring all our students are encouraged to continue their training once they have passed the test by taking the Pass Plus course. This is much more than just a few extra lessons. It is a course designed by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) with the help of insurers and driving instructors. It's aims are to
- Gain valuable driving experience safely
- Build on your existing skills and knowledge
- Reduce your risk of being involved in a road accident
- Save money on car insurance premiums
- Boost your confidence
There is no test at the end of the course, your driving will be continually assessed. Click Pass Plus for full details of the scheme.
How to apply for a full licence
After passing your driving test (theory and practical) you should exchange your test pass certificate for a new full licence as soon as possible. If you do not do this within 2 years of passing your test your entitlement to a full licence will be lost and you will have to pass both the theory and practical tests again.
To exchange the test pass certificate for a full licence you should complete the declaration on the test pass certificate and send it with your photocard licence, paper counterpart and appropriate fee (free if your first provisional licence was issued after 1 st March 2004, otherwise £9) to:
